The full-length album is is a bold statement of arrival from a young guitarist and composer whose music is as deeply rooted in tradition as it is forward-thinking. Recorded over two sessions six months apart, this debut album showcases Clark-Johnson’s ability to blend the harmonic richness of jazz with the rhythmic vitality of Black American music. Joining Clark-Johnson is his core quartet, comprised of Paul Moyer (piano and keyboards), Arte Adams (bass), and Noah Mortola (drums), and appearing on several tracks is the distinctive voice of Olivia Fields (saxophones). The resulting landscape is a powerful and playful combination of some of Portland’s most exciting young voices in the music. Chris Clark-Johnson is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Seattle, WA. Based in American traditions of improvisation and composition, his music draws on global influences and aims to inspire radical joy, understanding, and reflection. From Seattle guitar legend Danny Godinez and European-based songwriter Camille Bloom to Portland jazz mainstays Dan Balmer and Alan Jones, Clark-Johnson counts a wide range of unique voices in music as mentors past and present, and hopes to pass along any knowledge and insight he's gained to others through his music and teaching.

She has become a well-respected jazz singer, singing at venues like the legendary Jimmy Mack’s, The 1905, the Jack London Revue and the PDX Jazz Festival and has played with local luminaries such as Randy Porter, Greg Goebel, Dave Captein, John Stowell & Ron Steen. At the November 17th show you can expect a mix of the full spectrum of jazz, re-imagined pop tunes and original compositions. During his time in Washington State, BrandonLee pursued his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science & Music from Pacific Lutheran University. While being a band leader and solo artist, BrandonLee has showcased his talents working with some of the music scene’s most exciting producers/artists around the world such as; LofiJazzSoul Founder/Portland based Trumpeter Farnell Newton, EyeLoveBrandon, Jetfuel Jayy, Jonny Tobin, multi-instrumentalist from Portland Machado Mijiga, and Portland based Producer POSY to name a few. In 2018, BrandonLee Cierley ventured into exploits outside of his staple genre to be a guest artist with TwoFriends, LA Dj Duo, at sold out music festivals Lucky & Paradiso. Recently, BrandonLee has joined the stage with world renowned Saxophonist Mike Phillips who has played with musical giants such as Michael Jackson, Prince & Stevie Wonder for his appearance at the PDX Jazz Festival 2023. BrandonLee Cierley has been a featured performer on Seattle's KNKX for multiple Live Studio Sessions and his music has also been featured continuously on PDX's KMHD Jazz Station. BrandonLee Cierley released his debut album "Here Comes a New Challenger" in July of 2020 bringing in over 30k streams and counting which earned him a spot on PDX's jazz station KMHD's Best Single of the Year. July 2022, BrandonLee released a much anticipated summer 2-pack EP "Thank You for Waiting" which featured LA-based Saxophonist Braxton Cook and was placed on Spotify Editorial Playlists such as: Smooth Jazz Beats, Smooth Beats & Fresh Finds: Jazz reaching over 1 million streams and counting. In March 2023, BrandonLee had the opportunity to open up for Braxton Cook at the Jack London Revue for his “Black Nostalgia Tour”. BrandonLee released his sophomore record “Camaraderie” in 2022 through the PDX based label Lofijazzsoul receiving album reviews from one of Seattle prestigious jazz writers, Paul Rauch, from "All About Jazz" as well as from Robert Ham of "Jazz Society of Oregon''. With that, BrandonLee's newest album has been placed on a plethora of playlist placements including 2 of Spotify's biggest followed Editorial Playlist, "All About Jazz" & "Fresh Finds: Jazz". Since then, BrandonLee has been continuously releasing new music through the Lofijazzsoul label and with frequent collaborators reaching over 2 million streams for his entire music catalog. Trombonist and composer Adriana Wagner draws inspiration from a wide array of influences, combining traditional and modern jazz sounds. Her original compositions weave styles together under a decided jazz banner, submerging the listener in visionary storytelling. As a performer, Wagner uses lyrical elements to create melodies combined with a soft, rich tone that can resonate above or become immersed within the composition’s harmonic structures. Based in Portland, Oregon, she graduated from the Jazz Program at Portland State University in 2022. She was selected for the Young Jazz Composers program, highlighted by an in-depth article from Oregon Arts Watch (https://www.orartswatch.org/young-jazz-composers-jazz-to-the-future/). Wagner was recently named one of the inaugural recipients of the Music Oregon Echo Fund grant to help create her debut album, which she is anticipating the release of in June 2023. She performs with Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, Orquestra Pacifico Tropical, The 1905 Orchestra, The PDX Jazz American Refrain, Pura Vida Orchestra, Brown Branch Big Band, and Lily Sheers.
TICKETS | $20 Justin Copeland is a trumpet player, pianist, composer and music educator based out of the Central Valley city of Fresno, California. As a professional, he has performed all over the United States and abroad, and after almost 10 years living and working in the Chicago area, currently resides in Portland, Oregon. In addition to leading his own projects, Justin has shared the bandstand with many world-renowned artists including Victor Goines, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Branford Marsalis, Solange Knowles, and The Temptations. In addition to performing, Justin is quite active as an educator. He served as a teacher in the Beaverton Public Schools between 2018-2020, was an adjunct professor of trumpet at George Fox University from 2019-2023, and is currently the adjunct professor of jazz trumpet at Portland State University.

That was guitar great--and one-time Mel Brown bandmate-- George Benson's reaction after hearing the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group back in 2003. In fact, this true all-star band has been a sensation going back to 1997, when they began a 20-year run on Thursdays at Portland’s legendary “Jimmy Mak’s” music venue (The Oregonian dubbed them “Jimmy Mak’s signature group”). With a collective resume that reads like a "Who's Who" of NW jazz, blues, and soul, this group has the talent and confidence to be completely spontaneous--from their blistering solos to their improvised arrangements and segues. No wonder they've thrilled audiences wherever they've played. Count among the band’s fans jazz great Christian McBride, host of National Public Radio’s “Jazz Night In America.” In an October 2021 broadcast, McBride played several excerpts from a Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group festival set. Throughout this event, the audience will have an opportunity to electronically submit music that they’d like clarity on from members of the band, so as to watch how Christopher’s band problem solves their questions in real-time, in addition to hearing his group perform their own music, followed by members of the audience getting an opportunity to perform with his group in front of their peers.
