"If this band appeared in New York City, they'd be a sensation!" That was guitar great--and one-time Mel Brown bandmate--George Benson's reaction after hearing the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group open for him back in September, 2003 at Oregon's prestigious Britt Festival.
In fact, this true all-star band--each member is widely viewed as tops in the Northwest on his instrument--has been a sensation for a long while now. Mike Prigodich - piano
John Nastos - sax
Cameron Morgan - guitar
Damian Erskine - bass
Noah Mortola - drums
Mike Prigodich is a trailblazing jazz fusion pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music defies genre boundaries and embraces complexity with unflinching clarity. Based in Oregon, Prigodich draws inspiration from artists like Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, Yellowjackets, and others, but his sound is unmistakably his own—melding jazz with Latin, rock, and global influences to create emotionally rich, rhythmically daring compositions.
Prigodich made his mark with the release of his acclaimed 2011 debut album, A Stitch in Time, featuring an all-star lineup including Damian Erskine, Reinhardt Melz, and John Nastos. Funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign following a life-altering cancer diagnosis in 2008, the album was both a personal and artistic milestone. His story—of transformation through adversity—has become part of the music’s emotional DNA.
In 2025, Prigodich returned with Stage Magic, a stunning live album recorded at Classic Pianos in Portland. Capturing the unfiltered energy and synergy of his ensemble, the album showcases Prigodich’s signature compositional style: odd time signatures, intricate harmonies, and melodies that are as memorable as they are complex. Stage Magic is a masterclass in 21st-century jazz fusion – “a sonic journey brimming with inventive melodies, rhythmic complexity, and a deep sense of play.” (Jazz Chill Music)
His work has earned high praise from jazz luminaries. Chick Corea called his music “wonderful, beautiful, really great,” and George Whitty (Brecker Brothers) described his debut album as “one of those discs you want to hear again as soon as it’s finished.”
At once cerebral and soulful, Mike Prigodich’s music offers more than virtuosity—it offers vision. As a composer and performer, he continues to shape the future of jazz fusion with fearless creativity, technical brilliance, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity.

John Nastos (Alto Sax)
Greg Goebel (Piano)
Garrett Baxter (Bass)
Christopher Brown (Drums)
Upon Christopher Brown’s return to Portland in 2012—which was preceded by 13 years in the NYC area, as well as four years in the Marine Corps—the assemblage of his quartet quickly became one of note. And by 2017, his quartet had officially become the most visible Jazz group in all of Portland, with a steady weekly cadence of 3-4 performances, which was maintained until the start of the global pandemic. And even then, it took them no more than three months to return to a similar weekly performance schedule. Since 2017, the quartet has created a home for themselves at the famed 1905 Jazz club in Portland. And through their regular performances, they’ve not only helped to raise the profile of the venue to one of the world’s top 100 Jazz clubs according to Down Beat Magazine, but of Jazz itself in Portland. So in a market where it's difficult to maintain group's with the same personnel, it's arguable that the Christopher Brown Quartet succeeds as being one of (if not the best) Jazz "group" in all of Portland, which in turn gives them such a powerful, polished, and identifiable sound that can now be heard on his debut album "Sole City" on the PJCE record label.

An evening of modern, original soul & gospel centric jazz led by well-known Portland composer and alto saxophonist Ben Fowler.
Matt Sazima - piano
Chance Hayden - guitar
Ross Garlow - bass
Christopher Brown - drums
Ben Fowler - sax
Ben Fowler is one of the defining alto saxophonists in Portland’s modern jazz scene and has been a fixture at The 1905 since it first opened, helping shape the sound and spirit of the room from the beginning. If you’ve spent time in Portland jazz circles, you’ve likely heard him — his bright, vocal alto tone cutting through a groove one night, leaning into something more conversational the next. Rooted in the lineage of players like Kenny Garrett and David Sanborn, Ben’s sound is direct and unmistakably his own.
A Ben Fowler show isn’t a recital — it’s a conversation unfolding in real time. Tunes stretch and reshape depending on the room. Solos turn into exchanges. There’s humor on the bandstand, risk in the improvising, and a genuine back-and-forth between the players that pulls the audience in. By the end of the night, you don’t just feel like you watched a band — you feel like you were part of it.

He has performed at the Pescara and Bussi Jazz Festivals in Italy, as well as the Taipei and Taichung Jazz Festivals in Taiwan, and other festivals across the globe.
