Montavilla Jazz Presents: Galen Clark + Trent Baarspul + D'Vonne Lewis Cover

TICKETS $25 | ALL AGES A sound-pioneering trio exploring entropic soundscapes, psychedelic funk, and groove-heavy, electronic-tinged jazz. Lineup: Galen Clark, organ; Trent Baarspul, guitar; D'Vonne Lewis, drums The Galen Clark-led organ trio brings a genre-blending approach to the classic organ trio instrumentation, exploring entropic soundscapes, psychedelic funk, and groove-heavy, electronic-tinged jazz. The trio features Seattle drummer D'Vonne Lewis (Digable Planets, McTuff) and Nashville guitarist Trent Baarspul (Jarrod Lawson, Outer Orbit). Galen Clark is a keyboardist, songwriter, producer, and educator based in Portland, Oregon. He leads the soul funk collective Outer Orbit and the jazz fusion group Trio Subtonic, and he is one-third of the Pacific Northwest collaboration Patterns Fly with D'Vonne Lewis and Andy Coe. He has toured and collaborated with artists such as Anna Tivel, Sarah Clarke, Sleater-Kinney, A Love Electric, and Jessica Lurrie. Trent Baarspul, a talented multi-instrumentalist and composer/arranger, has always been deeply involved in music. Inspired by numerous genres, his “sound” is a fusion of jazz, modern popular styles, and world music blended to create a new emotive and melodic expression. During his early adulthood in Minneapolis, MN, he became a sought-after and respected member of the thriving music community, co-establishing and writing for the jazz fusion band New Sound Underground, as well as performing with countless other artists. Seattle native D’Vonne Lewis is a multi-award winning drummer who has toured, performed and/or recorded with Digable Planets, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Christian McBride, George Porter of the Funky Meters, Skerik and many other national and international artists. * The 12th Annual Montavilla Jazz Festival (MJF), presented by Accelerator Design Studios, takes place August 29–31, 2025, with a village-style celebration of Portland’s boundary-pushing jazz scene. Featuring 26 concerts across five venues, MJF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit—ticket sales directly support jazz education and community programs in Montavilla and beyond.
