TICKETS $35 | ALL AGES Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto, a master pianist, composer and arranger, is one of the most important Brazilian musicians working today. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, he has throughout his career been closely affiliated with the Brazilian master Hermeto Pascoal. He was an integral part of Pascoal's group from 1977 to1992, where he fine-tuned his artistry, performing around the world and co-producing several legendary records. Jovino’s personal style is a creative blend of energetic grooves, deep harmonies, telepathic improvisation, lyrical melodies and great ensemble playing, always inspired and informed by the colorful richness of Brazilian music. His compositions include samba, choro, baião, xote, forró, marcha and many more styles, rooted in centuries-old musical tradition while pointing to new and adventurous harmonic languages. Currently, Jovino leads his Seattle-based Quinteto and Trio. He taught piano and composition at Cornish College of the Arts for 26 years. He can also be heard around the world as a piano soloist, working with symphony orchestras, jazz big bands, chamber music groups, and in collaboration with musicians such as his mentor Hermeto Pascoal, Bill Frisell, Paquito d’Rivera, Airto Moreira, Claudio Roditi, David Sanchez, Joe Locke, Anat Cohen and many more.

Finishing up our Latin Jazz Week with a BANG, is our local fave, Sabroso!

Brothers Pablo and Ricardo Ojeda have been writing and playing music together for as long as they can remember. Their musical writing style has taken many forms during the evolution of their sound. From the national touring dance floor packing beats of Rubberneck, to the hypnotic passionate rhythms of Toque Libre. The Ojeda brothers have continually produced eclectic musical incarnations that meld rhythm and melody together in their own unique way.

Their latest musical offering is called “Sabroso”, meaning flavorful in Spanish. Sabroso starts where Toque Libre left off…the next chapter. Dance floors will move and groove to the sophisticated Latin rhythms and steady funky soul pulse of Sabroso.

Sabroso features some of Portland’s most well known and talented musicians. The band’s rhythmic foundation is brought to you by Pablo Ojeda on bass/vocals (Rubberneck, Toque Libre, Geoff Byrd), Ward “The Warden” Griffiths (Fred Strickley, King Beta, The Quadraphones.

The horn section showcases the incredible talents of Paul Mazzio (Gino Vannelli, Tom Grant, Nu Shooz) on trumpet and John Nastos on saxophone. Adding to the depth of talent is the hook laden piano styling of Dave a.k.a. “Sprinkles” Fleschner (Curtis Salgado, Earl Thomas, John Nemeth, Mel Brown, B.B. King) on piano. Last but not least, is Ricardo Ojeda on guitar/vocals. Sabroso is guaranteed to please Portland’s most discerning music lovers.
