After a year of sharing my debut album Before the Sky Turns Gold, I'll be closing out 2026 at The 1905 with a quintet and a set made for December. Holiday favorites sit alongside the ballads and swing tunes I reach for when the Portland rain sets in. Bring someone you like. We'll keep the room warm.

Zach is a jazz vocalist based in Portland by way of Greentown, Indiana. Since 2018, he's sung around town at The 1905, Wilf's, Jo Bar, Alberta Street Pub, Haymaker, Radio Room, the Alberta Rose Theatre, and The Underground, and he's appeared at the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival.

He fell for jazz as a teenager, listening to Chet Baker, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Kurt Elling, and Mark Murphy, then studied Vocal Jazz Performance at Portland State University with Sherry Alves, Kerry Politzer, Darrell Grant, George Colligan, and Todd Marston.

In July 2025, Zach and his band recorded Before the Sky Turns Gold in a single ten-hour studio session. The album came out in January 2026, with takes on standards like "Our Love Is Here to Stay," "Windmills of Your Mind," and even a vocal run at Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee."

When he's not singing, he's usually camping or hiking somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
